Docsumo Alternative for PDF to Excel: Pricing, OCR Accuracy, and Bank Statement Extraction

Docsumo is document AI for lenders, banks and insurers: it reads a mortgage application or an ACORD form, validates the fields, and posts a decision into a system like Encompass or Guidewire. If your actual job is getting the table out of a PDF and into a spreadsheet, that is a large platform and a sales conversation for a small task. Drop a file on the right and look at the output first.

OCR on scanned pages is included on paid plans, and files are deleted after processing.

The short answer

Docsumo is an intelligent document processing platform aimed at lending, banking, insurance, healthcare and logistics. It advertises 99% field level accuracy across 250 or more document types, SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR and HIPAA compliance, and connectors that push results into NetSuite, SAP, Encompass, Epic and Guidewire. Its own pricing page lists a free 14 day trial with up to 1,000 pages and 10 user licenses, then Business and Enterprise tiers that are quote based, and the billing unit is pages rather than seats. PDFXLSX is the alternative for the narrower job: upload a PDF, get an Excel or CSV file with the columns intact, on a published flat plan from $9 a month with no page meter and nothing to implement. If your documents need validating and posting into a lending or claims system, Docsumo is the correct product, and this page says so more than once.

What Docsumo is actually built for

Docsumo is not a converter with a fancier name. Look at the document list it leads with and the shape of the product becomes obvious: mortgage applications on the 1003 form, ACORD insurance forms, W-2s and W-9s, bank checks, bills of lading, pay slips, driver licenses, utility bills. Those are documents where a specific field decides something. Is the stated income consistent with the deposits. Does the policy number on the ACORD match the one on file. Is this the same applicant as the one on the license.

So the platform is built around fields, validation rules and a decision that gets posted somewhere. It advertises 99% field level accuracy on more than 250 document types, straight through processing above 95%, and connectors that write results into NetSuite, SAP, Encompass, Epic and Guidewire. It carries SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR and HIPAA compliance, because the buyers are lenders, banks, insurers and healthcare operators who cannot sign anything without them. If you underwrite loans or adjudicate claims at volume, that is a coherent product and the compliance posture alone may be the reason you are shopping.

PDFXLSX solves a smaller and much more common problem. A PDF has a table in it. You need that table in a spreadsheet, with the columns where they belong and the amounts stored as numbers rather than text. No rules engine, no approval queue, no connector. That narrowness is the point: you can extract data from a PDF to a spreadsheet this afternoon, and the price is a number on a page instead of a conversation with an account executive.

Four columns, every row, negatives kept negative. That is the entire deliverable for a very large share of the people who end up on a document AI pricing page.

Docsumo vs PDFXLSX

An honest comparison, including the rows where Docsumo is plainly the stronger product. One is a document AI platform for regulated decisioning, the other is a table converter.

Capability Docsumo PDFXLSX
What it is Document AI platform for lending, insurance, healthcare and logistics decisioning A converter that turns PDF tables into Excel or CSV
Document coverage Advertises pre-trained models for 250 or more document types including 1003 mortgage applications, ACORD forms, W-2s and bills of lading Any PDF that contains a table. No per document type models, structure is detected per file
Field validation and business rules Yes. Validations, cross document checks, master data lookup, review queues and audit logging None. You get a spreadsheet and apply your own checks in Excel
Posting into a system of record Yes. Listed connectors include NetSuite, SAP, Encompass, Epic and Guidewire No connectors. Download the file and import it yourself
Regulated compliance Publishes SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR and HIPAA compliance, plus SSO and custom data retention on Enterprise Encrypted transfer and deletion after processing, but no SOC 2 report, no SSO and no HIPAA BAA
How you are billed By pages processed. Free 14 day trial with a page allowance, then Business and Enterprise on request Flat monthly plan from $9, published, no page meter
Time to first useful output Trial signup, model selection and usually a call before anything past the trial Upload a file on this page and look at the result
OCR on scanned pages Yes, with confidence scores and a human review screen Yes, included on paid plans and applied automatically
Best fit Lenders, insurers and healthcare operators automating regulated document decisions at volume Accountants, analysts and finance teams who need clean spreadsheets out of PDFs without buying a platform

Read that honestly and Docsumo wins four rows outright: document type coverage, field validation, posting into a system of record, and regulated compliance. Those are not small rows. A lender who has to evidence how an income figure was derived, or a healthcare operator who needs a HIPAA business associate agreement, should buy the platform and stop reading here. This page argues only that a lot of people shopping in this category are about to pay platform prices for a spreadsheet.

What Docsumo costs, and what the page metering means

Docsumo publishes a free tier and then stops publishing numbers. As of August 2026 its pricing page lists a Free plan billed at $0, described as a 14 day trial with up to 1,000 pages and 10 user licenses, including pre-trained models, table extraction, the AI review screen, webhooks and API access, and Excel downloads. Above that sit Business and Enterprise, both marked as custom pricing behind a contact form. Business adds master data lookup, auto classification and splitting, custom document pipelines, permissions, a test environment, audit logging and a dedicated account manager. Enterprise adds automated workflows, case management, cross document validations and real time analytics.

Third party software directories still list a Growth tier at around 5,000 pages a month and a Business tier at roughly $2,499 a month. Those figures do not appear on the vendor page today, so treat them as stale secondary reporting rather than a quote. The honest summary is that anything past the trial is priced by conversation, and the unit is pages.

Page metering matters more than it sounds. A 40 page bank statement is 40 pages whether you needed one number off it or the entire transaction register. A quarter of statements for a dozen entities is a real line item before anyone has looked at the output. That model is completely defensible when each page triggers a decision worth far more than its processing cost, which is the lending and claims case Docsumo sells into. It is a poor fit when the pages are simply long and the work is simply a spreadsheet.

How the conversion works

1

Upload the PDF

Drag one file or a folder of them into the box at the top of this page. Nothing to install, which matters on a locked down work laptop where you cannot approve a desktop agent.

2

The table gets rebuilt

A PDF stores characters at coordinates and has no concept of a cell, so the columns have to be inferred from position. Scanned pages get OCR first. Numbers come out as numbers, and negatives stay negative rather than arriving as text in parentheses.

3

Download XLSX or CSV

Open it in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers and get on with the work. If something looks off, our guide on checking a conversion for errors covers the five checks worth running.

When Docsumo is the better choice

We would rather you buy the right thing than churn in month two. Docsumo is the better purchase in all of these cases, and none of them are edge cases.

You are in a regulated workflow

Lending, insurance claims and healthcare intake need SOC 2 evidence, a HIPAA business associate agreement, SSO and controlled data retention. We do not offer any of those, and no amount of conversion quality substitutes for them.

The document is a form, not a table

A 1003 mortgage application, an ACORD certificate or a W-9 is a set of labeled fields scattered across a page. Pre-trained models for those forms beat generic table detection every time.

The data has to post somewhere automatically

If the goal is that nobody touches a document between arrival and the record in Encompass, Guidewire or NetSuite, you need connectors and a workflow engine. We hand you a file and stop.

Accuracy has to be measured, not felt

Docsumo publishes field level accuracy targets and straight through processing rates, and gives reviewers confidence scores. If your team needs to report on extraction quality, that instrumentation is the product.

Docsumo alternative: common questions

What is Docsumo used for?

Docsumo is an intelligent document processing platform used to pull data out of business documents and act on it. Its stated focus is lending and banking, financial services, insurance, healthcare and logistics, with pre-trained models for documents like bank statements, mortgage applications, ACORD forms, W-2s, pay slips, utility bills and bills of lading. The extracted data is validated and posted into a system of record.

How much does Docsumo cost?

As of August 2026, Docsumo publishes only a free tier: $0 for a 14 day trial with up to 1,000 pages and 10 user licenses. The Business and Enterprise plans are listed as custom pricing behind a contact form, and billing is based on pages processed. Older third party directory listings still quote a Growth tier around 5,000 pages a month and a Business tier near $2,499 a month, but those numbers are not on the vendor page today.

Is Docsumo free?

There is a free plan, but it is a 14 day trial rather than an ongoing free tier. It includes a page allowance, 10 user licenses, pre-trained models, table extraction, the review screen, API and webhook access, and Excel downloads. After the trial you move to a quoted plan. It is designed for evaluation, not for sustained production volume.

How accurate is Docsumo?

Docsumo advertises 99% field level accuracy across more than 250 document types, straight through processing above 95%, and specific figures such as 99.81% on Medicaid applications. Those are vendor claims measured on their own document sets. Whatever tool you evaluate, the only number that matters is accuracy on your documents, so run a real sample through before signing anything.

Can Docsumo convert PDF to Excel?

Yes. Excel download is listed even on the free tier, and the platform extracts both fields and tables. The difference is scope rather than capability. Docsumo is built to feed that data into validations and a system of record, so you configure and pay for a pipeline even when the spreadsheet at the end was the entire goal.

What is the difference between document AI and a PDF converter?

Document AI reads meaning: it identifies which value is the borrower income, checks it against a rule or another document, and triggers the next step. A PDF converter reproduces structure: it works out where the rows and columns sit and writes them into a spreadsheet. Document AI automates a decision. A converter gives you data you can work with.

Is Docsumo good for bank statements?

It handles them and markets to lenders who spread them, so yes for underwriting workflows. For plain extraction it can be an expensive route, because a statement is a table problem rather than a field problem and page metering charges you for length you did not choose. If you just need every transaction row in a spreadsheet, a bank statement PDF to Excel converter is the shorter path.

What are the best Docsumo alternatives?

It depends which half of the job you need. For regulated workflow automation and posting into a system of record, the comparable platforms are other document AI vendors such as Nanonets, Rossum and Mindee. For getting tables out of documents and into spreadsheets, the comparison set is converters: see our Nanonets alternative, Docparser alternative and ABBYY FineReader alternative pages.

Do I need a document AI platform to process invoices?

Only if the invoices need approving, matching and posting without a person present. If someone in accounts payable already opens each one, the bottleneck is usually retyping the line items rather than routing. Converting the invoice PDF to Excel in batches removes that work at a fraction of platform pricing, and you can revisit automation once volume actually justifies it.

Does Docsumo handle scanned documents?

Yes. OCR is core to the product and reviewers get confidence scores on low certainty fields. We also run OCR automatically on scanned pages for paid plans, without a separate step or a separate charge. If your source files are photographs or fax quality scans, test both on your worst example rather than your cleanest one.
